The generic structure of news item:

                                                 

1.       Newsworthy event          : recounts the event in a brief form or summary form.

2.       Background event           : elaborate what happened to whom in what circumstances.

3.       Sources                                                : contain about comments by participant in witnesses to and       authorities expert on the event.

The languages features:

a)      Short, telegraphic information about story captured in headline

b)      Use of materials processes to retell the event

c)       Use of processes in sources stage (said, told, spoken, etc)

d)      Focus on circumstance

e)      Using simple present tense
